Frequent Asked Questions
Questions you might have about the Spiritgrow High Holiday services this year...
Why am I not being asked to pay for a seat?
We want to change people's perception of Judaism. For too long Judaism has been seen as a product or a component of life instead of a way of life. The Jewish spiritual way of life is not something you buy. It is something you adopt to improve oneself and the world.
For too long people have been placed under a financial burden by the high prices being charged. Spiritgrow emphasizes the spiritual value rather than $ value and believes that our teaching example will improve the community and the world. The High Holy Days, for many Jews is seen as 'Tax Time’.
We want to change that narrative to 'Growth Time’.
We hope that you will applaud and seriously consider our important work and make donations when you can, to help further our mission and quality of programming.
Spiritgrow High Holy Day services will once again be free as we strongly believe that prayer should not be ’taxed’. However, as you can understand, security measures in our current climate and ancillary costs are immense. We have to therefore levy a fee of $70 per seat to recover the cost of these necessary measures, thus ensuring your peace of mind and comfort . We know you will be understanding.
What's the difference between Inner-Child service and the Soul-Wise service?
Besides the fact that they are in different locations and led by different Rabbis, they are also two quite different offerings, although both are full services on Rosh HaShannah and Yom Kippur.
‘Inner Child’ has the zest and adventurousness of our inner child. Conducted by Menachem it has fast pace, profound emotions, often funny, and at other times possessing intense gravitas.
‘Soul-Wise’ is contemplative, introspective and meditative. It provides deeper spiritual and thoughtful insights and provides an atmosphere of serious exploration of self and other.
So what is Spiritgrow's financial model if it is not charging?
Great question! We rely on your kindness and generosity. We seek your partnership in investment in altruism.
Many organisations in the world are partnered by the kindness of those who benefit from their work. We want you to find it in your heart to help us to help yourself and others. But we do not want to see our work as being a product nor do we want to see your needs and problems in life as things we can financially leverage by.
So is Spiritgrow funded by a single person or organisation?
No, Spiritgrow exists thanks to the generosity of many people who value and believe in our work. We hope you will join the many incredible people who share our goals.
So how do I make a donation?
Great question, at this point we would really value a conversation with you so if you wouldn't mind calling Spiritgrow on (03) 9509 7211, and speak either to Menachem or Laibl to allow you to give in a more conscious and impactful way.
Will there be a children's or teen program?
Yes, but only at 'Inner-Child' (St. Kilda Town Hall). There will be both children and teen programs there throughout the service. If you would like to have your children or teens join these programs, please be sure to indicate so in the enrollment form.
The 'Soul-Wise' service will not facilitate young children due to the nature of the service and the lack of facilities. So we encourage families to join the 'Inner-Child' service.
Can I sit next to a friend?
We have built-in seating flexibility this year to facilitate your seating wishes. Our number one priority is that immediate family members sit together followed by extended family and friends.
